Storage & Shelf Life
Stored properly, a liquid culture syringe stays viable for months. The two things that matter most are a cool, stable temperature and clean handling every time you use it.
Storage essentials
- Refrigerate: keep the syringe cold at a stable refrigerator temperature.
- Never freeze: freezing can damage living mycelium.
- Keep it capped and protected: store the syringe in a clean sealed bag or container.
- Keep it away from heat and direct light: extended warmth shortens useful storage life.
Before use
Allow the syringe to approach room temperature naturally, mix the mycelium through the broth, and follow How to Use a Liquid Culture Syringe. Do not open a sealed syringe to smell it.
When something looks unusual
Mycelium density varies by species, and a syringe can look nearly clear when the culture has settled. Persistent uniform cloudiness, unexplained colors, gas, swelling, or leaking deserves caution.
