Products

What is a liquid culture?

It is living mushroom mycelium suspended in a sterile nutrient solution, ready to introduce to properly prepared grain or substrate. Read What Is Liquid Culture? or compare liquid culture vs. spores.

Do you sell psilocybin or “magic” mushrooms?

No. Gourmet Cultures carries only gourmet culinary and functional mushroom cultures, including Lion's Mane, oysters, Shiitake, Reishi, Cordyceps, Turkey Tail, and other non-psychoactive species.

What cultures do you carry?

Browse all liquid culture syringes, or shop by Culinary, Functional, Oyster, Hardwood, and Beginner-Friendly.

Do you offer bundles?

Yes. Our liquid culture bundles group compatible beginner, culinary, functional, hardwood, and oyster selections at a lower combined price. Every bundle page links to each included product and species guide.

How much culture is in each syringe?

Every standard syringe holds 10cc of liquid culture. The correct inoculation amount depends on the jar or bag size; see How to Use a Liquid Culture Syringe.

Choosing a culture

Which liquid culture is best for beginners?

Blue Oyster and Pearl Oyster are our most broadly forgiving first choices. Pink Oyster is excellent for warmer rooms, while Lion's Mane, Chestnut, and Shiitake add progressively more hardwood-growing experience. Compare all six in our beginner guide.

Using your culture

How do I use it?

Work clean, mix the culture, flame-sterilize and cool the needle, inoculate properly sterilized grain, and incubate within the species' preferred temperature range. Follow the complete step-by-step guide.

Do I need a flow hood?

No, but clean technique matters. A still-air box can work well for home growers; a properly operating flow hood is a useful upgrade.

How do I make grain spawn?

Use sterilized grain jars or bags with filter patches and injection ports, then mix once meaningful colonization is established. See How to Make Grain Spawn from Liquid Culture.

Storage and troubleshooting

How do I store it, and how long does it last?

Refrigerate it and never freeze it. Keep the capped syringe clean and protected. Read the complete storage and shelf-life guide.

How can I recognize contamination?

Unusual colors, persistent uniform cloudiness, gas, leaking, wet stalled grain, or mold are warning signs. Do not open a sealed syringe just to smell it. Use Liquid Culture Contamination: Signs, Prevention and Troubleshooting.
